Apple has officially unveiled its new flagship smartphone lineup, headlined by the powerful apple iphone 18 pro max alongside the company’s first-ever foldable device, the iPhone Duo.
The major unveiling took place on Wednesday during Apple’s flagship autumn product showcase, which also introduced updated AirPods and fresh Apple Watch models. The event marked a critical transition point for the technology giant, serving as the first keynote led by new chief executive John Ternus.
The Foldable iPhone Duo Takes Centre Stage Under New Leadership
The spotlight shone brightly on the newly minted iPhone Duo foldable, representing a dramatic shift in Apple’s design philosophy. Built with a continuous 7.6-inch display when fully opened, Apple described the handset as its thinnest iPhone ever created.
When shut, the device takes on dimensions roughly matching a standard passport with a compact 5.4-inch outer display. Controls such as status indicators and the home-screen dock sit neatly along the right edge for fluid one-handed navigation.
Introducing the hardware, new chief executive John Ternus Apple CEO took aim at existing devices on the market, stating they felt like “two phones awkwardly stuck together.” The presentation marked Ternus’s first keynote since taking the reins from former chief executive Tim Cook.
The premium foldable will carry a substantial price tag, with industry reports indicating it will cost upwards of $2,000 (£1,535) as it establishes an entirely new category within the iPhone ecosystem.
Flagship Performance: The Apple iPhone 18 Pro Max and Pro Pricing
Beside the foldable hardware, the flagship standard series saw significant upgrades. The tech giant introduced both the baseline Pro model and the top-tier apple iphone 18 pro max, adjusting prices across the board. The standard iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199 (£920) and focuses on advanced optics, while the larger iPhone 18 Pro Max commands an entry price of $1,299 (£995) for top-tier display performance and enhanced AI integration. Meanwhile, the luxury iPhone Duo foldable occupies the absolute top end of the lineup at $1,999 and above.
These figures mark a clear step up from last year’s release cycle, where the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max launched at $1,099 and $1,199 respectively.
To justify the price bump, the Pro series incorporates a sophisticated variable-aperture camera system. This mechanism dynamically alters how much light hits the image sensor, giving photographers far finer control over depth of field and low-light exposure. Furthermore, the internal layout includes an enhanced thermal management system designed to regulate operating temperatures under heavy processing loads.
To ease the financial transition for buyers, Apple highlighted its structured Upgrade Programme. The scheme enables buyers to spread payments across 12 or 24-month cycles, offering a direct path to swap devices once the term ends.
AirPods 5 and Next-Generation Apple Watches Introduced
Beyond phones, the keynote expanded into personal audio and wearables. The new AirPods 5 hit the stage featuring refined acoustics and active noise cancellation. Driven by updated Siri artificial intelligence software, the earbuds now deliver real-time speech translation directly into the user’s ear.
On the wearable front, Apple launched the Apple Watch Series 12 alongside the rugged Apple Watch Ultra 4. Both devices rely heavily on health-tracking algorithms, featuring a new “Readiness” score that compiles sleep statistics, vital signs, and recent activity levels into a daily recovery metric.
Safety capabilities also received an upgrade through a feature termed Audio Intelligence. The system allows the watch hardware to recognise environmental alerts like emergency sirens or smoke alarms. Apple confirmed that audio data processing remains fully on-device and end-to-end encrypted, ensuring no personal voice recordings are collected or stored.
The event closed with Ternus outlining his broader operational vision, setting the course for Apple’s next era of hardware innovation.
