The intersection of technology and travel took centre stage in Limpopo as Liranz Chief Executive Officer, Nicholas Bortey, participated in the 8th Africa Tourism Leadership Forum 2026 (ATLF).

Convened at the Meropa Casino & Entertainment World under the theme Africa Connects™, the pan-African platform brought together policymakers, business executives, and tech innovators to advance sustainable development and intra-African travel. Serving as a key member of the Forum’s Advisory & Awards Committee, Bortey brought over two decades of expertise in information technology strategy and business consulting to the continental stage.

Nicholas Bortey: Pioneering Digital Transformation in African Tourism

As the founder and CEO of Liranz—a Ghana-based IT consulting and managed services firm—Nicholas Bortey has consistently advocated for leveraging technology to modernize traditional industries. His involvement at ATLF 2026 underscored how digital transformation in African tourism is shifting from an operational advantage to an absolute economic necessity.

“Cross-sector collaboration—particularly through the application of technology, strategic innovation, and entrepreneurial thinking—is essential to unlocking Africa’s full economic potential,” noted Liranz leadership during the forum discussions.

Across the continent, destinations are adopting smart technology, big data, and cloud-based infrastructure to streamline visitor management, enhance cross-border travel efficiency, and optimize marketing. Bortey’s advisory role ensured that tech-driven efficiency and strategic IT architecture remained central to discussions on scaling African hospitality enterprises.

Empowering the African Youth in Tourism Innovation Movement

Bortey’s participation in Polokwane builds on his long-standing commitment to nurturing emerging talent through the African Youth in Tourism Innovation Summit & Challenge.

Nicholas Bortey’s long-standing commitment to the African Youth in Tourism Innovation movement focuses on three strategic areas of impact. First, through direct adjudication and mentorship, he actively evaluates and refines tech-enabled business solutions developed by young African entrepreneurs across the continent. Second, he emphasizes capacity building by helping bridge the critical gap between youth-led tech startups and established corporate IT infrastructure. Finally, through his role on the continental Advisory and Awards Committee, he works to recognize and elevate trailblazers driving impactful change within Africa’s tourism ecosystem.

Through years of active adjudication, mentorship, and policy dialogue, Bortey has helped young innovators turn early-stage ideas into scalable enterprises that address real-world travel friction points across the continent.

Shaping the Future of African Travel and Tech

The assembly in Limpopo highlighted a growing consensus among African leaders: the future of tourism lies in unified continental strategy, digital infrastructure, and cross-border agility.

By uniting managed IT services with tourism leadership, Nicholas Bortey and Liranz continue to demonstrate how technology acts as a bridge—connecting African youth, enabling smarter travel ecosystems, and propelling sustainable economic growth across Africa.
