The Nigerian business magnate and politician made the emphasis in a series of tweets on his Twitter handle, @benmurraybruce on Sunday, saying “Life in parts of Nigeria is still like Stone Age, Short & Brutish. With a minimum wage of ₦18,000 it will continue to be so. We must increase the minimum wage. If we can afford ₦1.1 billion to clean the National Security Adviser’s office, we can afford to increase minimum wage.”
A member of the People’s Democratic Party, Ben Murray-Bruce added: “For too long, Nigeria’s leader have thought about the next election instead of the next generation. That is why our recurrent expenditure is huge and our capital expenditure is small and why their budgets build their cronies wallets instead of building infrastructure for masses.
“And I was the one who set that salary? When I was fresh at the Senate I publicly championed a crusade to ask for our wages to be reduced. It would have been good if I had your support then instead of this quip.”
