Ekiti Grassroots Movement (EGM) has called on stakeholders and well-meaning leaders in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State to put more premium on loyalty and competence as the parameters for choosing its candidate for the 2022 governorship election.
EGM is a socio-political group which has its root in the continuity agenda of former governor Fayose in 2018 and has over 10,000 youths across the 16 LGAs in Ekiti State.
Speaking to newsmen in Ado-Ekiti yesterday, Comrade Adebisi Adeola, who is the Media Director of the group, said considering the lukewarm performance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Dr Fayemi in the last two years, if stakeholders in PDP could embark on genuine reconciliation and allow a candidate who has overwhelming supports across the three Senatorial Districts emerges at the primaries, PDP is no doubt a political party to beat in the guber race come 2022.
“It is pertinent to state without being ambiguous that one of the best and competent products Fayose has ever produced in Ekiti PDP’s socio-political evaluation is Prof. Kolapo Olusola Eleka.
“As an erudite and workaholic Deputy Governor who enjoyed grace and affection from his boss, he embarked on series of programmes in the Ministry of Education which resulted in huge and unbeatable success.
“For the records, Ekiti State came first in NECO/SSCE in 2016, 2017 and 2018 and the percentage who passed WASSCE was tremendously improved up to about 70% under his supervision. He achieved this giant stride through a constant engagement within the education sector, SPELLING BEE Competitions organised among primary, JSS and SSS between 2014-2018 and others.
“Records are there to verify at the ministry of Education. Fayose/Eleka administration gave out laptops, books, cash and prizes to deserving schools, teachers and students to encourage them”.
Adeola said Eleka has passed the test of loyalty not only to his boss but the PDP and his followers.
“It is worthy to note that the reward system is basically essential to drive a political party. If PDP wants to achieve the goals and reflect the values in its mission statement, the reward system of the party must be considered and put into place”, Adeola said.
