Enugu State police command has refuted the news which went viral on the social media in the early hours of today, saying that some unknown gunmen invaded SARS office in the state and killed about six officers of the unit while others sustained gun shot injuries.

Daniel  Ndukwe, the Force spokesman in the state has urged the general public to completely disregard the malicious falsehood peddled by disgruntled and mischief makers, as such did not happen in the SARS office or anywhere in the state.

In a statement, Ndukwe said, “The attention of the Enugu State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has been drawn to a baseless and malicious falsehood making the rounds on social media that gunmen on Tuesday [06/10/2020] morning attacked SARS Police Station in Enugu; killed six (6) of their Men, many of them sustained bullets injury and the Station set on fire.”

“In view of the above, the Commissioner of Police, Ahmad AbdurRahman entreats the general public, particularly residents of the State, to completely disregard such unfounded, baseless and malicious falsehood being peddled by disgruntled and mischief-makers, as such did not happen in SARS Office or anywhere in the State.”

“The Commissioner wonders why anyone or group of persons will be so disgruntled, mischievous and find time to conjure-up such unthinkable and malicious falsehood, capable of rousing tension in the hitherto peaceful State. He warns that its originators and peddlers will be made to face the full wrath of the law when apprehended.”

“To this end, the CP directs the conduct of discreet investigation to fish out peddlers of the misleading information and reassures commitment to always emplace adequate security in the State. He enjoins citizens not to panic over such unfounded news and go about their lawful businesses.”

“Meanwhile, citizens of the State have been enjoined to remain law-abiding and guard against the spread of such falsehood, while reporting perpetrators to the nearest Police Station or by calling the Command’s emergency hotlines on: 08032003702, 08086671202, 08075390883 or 08098880172.”
