Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, has thrown his weights behind the peaceful demonstration embarked upon by the Nigerian youths against the age-long brutality of SARS police.
In a tweet on Friday, October 9, Keyamo a human right lawyer, maintained that demonstration is a democratic right of Nigerians.
He stressed that the peaceful protest by the frustrated Nigerian youths is a culture of democracy and they must be allowed to express their anger “without inhibitions.”
Social media has been awash with #EndSars hashtag peaking globally as Nigerians continue to demonstrate their displeasure against pronounced police brutality nationwide.
Adding his voice, Keyamo further stated that protest is right and to sit down after protest to have “reasonable conversation” is also permitted by the democratic order.
The tweet reads: “Peaceful protests by citizens to ventilate their frustrations is part of democratic culture. They MUST be allowed to do this without inhibitions. That culture also requires that citizens be willing to sit down after the protests to have some reasonable conversation on the issues.”
Reporters At Large recalls that amid continuous killing and extortion by the police officers who belong to the SARS, Nigerians have taken to the streets and government areas to call for the ban of the controversial unit.
Meanwhile, Reporters At Large had earlier reported that There was violence in Osun and Abuja on Friday as youths protest against police brutality and extortion.
Reporters At Large gathered that in a bid to disperse the protesters, policemen shot indiscriminately.
