AFRICAN champions D’Tigers were drawn on Friday in Group B with Spain, Argentina, Brazil, and Lithuania. This is one of three groups that may qualify by Olympic Qualifying Tournaments for the basketball event at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, which are billed to take place in August.

The defending champions USA were drawn in Group A with Australia, China, Venezuela, and two groups to be determined on the OQTs, which might continue from July 4 to 10.

The host nation was placed in Group B after the USA and Venezuela were drawn in Group A to avoid having three groups from the Americas in the same group.

The draw, which was held at the International Basketball Federation’s House of Basketball in Mies, Switzerland, also featured fascinating clashes in the ladies’ match.

The reigning Olympic ladies’ champions, USA, have been drawn in Group B with Canada, Senegal, Serbia, and two groups to be determined at the Olympic qualifying match from June 13 to 19. The ladies’ Group A has London 2012 bronze medallists Australia, Brazil, Japan, and three groups to be determined at the qualifier.

The group phases shall be performed in a round-robin format (every workforce performs against the other 5 in its group), with the top 4 groups in each group proceeding to the knock-out part, which consists of quarter-finals, semi-finals, bronze medal games, and gold medal games.
