Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, on Thursday, called on Nigerians to continue to join hands to make Oyo State and Nigeria better.

Governor Makinde, who stated this during an ‘Independence Day Walk’ led on his behalf by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mrs Olubamiwo Adeosun, declared that unity was needed to enable the country to move forward.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr Taiwo Adisa, indicated that the walk was attended by top government functionaries and other members of the public.

It was held in commemoration of Nigeria’s 61st independence anniversary, the statement said.

It added that the 2.5-Kilometre walk took off from the Government House Arcade, Agodi, to the Total Garden roundabout and ended at the entrance of the Oyo State Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.

The governor explained that the present administration in the state is interested in sports development, saying that the state is lucky to have a governor who has an interest in keeping fit.

He said: “We have just had a walk commemorating the 61st anniversary of Nigeria.

“We are a government that is very interested in sports development. So, this walk today shows how fit we are.

“I believe you can also see all the members of the cabinet present here, walking to commemorate Nigeria.

“The message on this is multiple. The first one is that Nigeria is 61 and there are a lot of things we need to be proud about, having achieved them as a nation. But there is still a lot of work to be done.

“We are asking all of us, the good people of Oyo State, to put our hands together to work to make Oyo State and Nigeria better. We should not leave it for the government alone.”

The ‘Independence Day walk’ had in attendance, the Chief of Staff, Hon. Segun Ogunwuyi, Head of Service, Alhaja Ololade Agboola, Deputy Chief of Staff, Hon. Majeed Mogbonjubola, Commissioners and other political appointees.
