Veteran broadcaster and Group General Manager of Fresh FM Nigeria, Alhaji Abolade Salami, has dissociated himself from a publication trending in the media: he has been appointed as a member of the Media and Publicity Committee for the re-election of the Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde.

In a statement issued and released to the media in Ibadan on Thursday night, ace broadcaster Alhaji Salami said that he had never applied to serve as a Media and Publicity Committee member to campaign for the second term of Seyi Makinde.

Alhaji Salami urged members of the public to disregard the publication. The statement, personally signed by Alhaji Abolade Salami, reads:

“My attention has been drawn to a publication on social media that I have been appointed as a member of the Media and Publicity Committee for the re-election of Governor Seyi Makinde, and I hereby decline the offer due to my position as a serving media executive with in-depth knowledge of the ethics of my profession.

“I am not a member of any committee set up by the Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde or any of his aides for his re-election or political activity. I am neither a member of any political party nor involved in any political activity.

“With a practice spanning over four decades, I am a seasoned professional and broadcast journalist of note without any partisan relationship with any political party. I strictly observe the code and ethics of our profession,, which forbid partisanship and political leanings.

The Fresh FM radio station, which I work for, has a strong policy on objectivity and nonpartisanship throughout its operations and would never sacrifice that for anything.

The general public is hereby advised to disregard the falsehood already trending in social media and take it with a pinch of salt, as my professional calling does not permit me to be partisan.
