THE Senate, on Thursday, reshuffled its committees as part of efforts at ensuring peaceful resolution of the crisis among members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the red chamber.

Members of the APC operating under the aegis of the Senate Unity Forum, who had consistently mounted serious opposition against the leadership of the upper chamber since the inauguration of the 8th Senate, were favourably rewarded with the new appointments.

Although the Senate spokesperson, Sabi Abdullahi, said the latest arrangement was aimed at strengthening the legislative functions of the committees, our correspondent learnt that the action was taken following a recent meeting between President Muhammadu Buhari, Senator David Mark, and the Governor of Katsina State, Alhaji Aminu Masari.

It was further learnt that Mark and Masari met with the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, and advised him to reshuffle the committees with a view to addressing the perceived lopsidedness in the initial appointments, which forced the aggrieved senators to initiate legal action against the senate presiding officers.

It was further learnt that Saraki had briefed his colleagues at an executive session held on Tuesday and urged them to take the new arrangements in good faith in the interest of peace.
