An exceptional girl, Alena Analeigh, has set a new record as the youngest African-American girl to be admitted into a medical school in the United States after gaining admission into the University of Alabama Birmingham Heersink School of Medicine at 13.
Alena Analeigh had previously gained admission to Arizona State University, Arizona, United States, to study engineering at 12 years old. After one year of studying engineering, she decided to switch her career path to becoming a medical doctor.
She took a full course load at Arizona State University and Oakwood University. After just one year, she has already finished two and a half years of college studying engineering.
“I want to leave my mark on the world. And lead a group of girls who know what to do,” Alena said.
Last year, she wanted to become an engineer and saw herself working at NASA, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. However, shortly after she became interested in biology, another passion took over.
“It took one class in engineering for me to say this is kind of not where I wanted to go,” she said.
“I think viral immunology came from my passion for volunteering and going out there and engaging with the world.”
Alena is not new to switching her interest in studies, as she is brilliant enough to take on any challenge. Originally, she wanted to become an astronomer, but then she switched to engineering because of her love of building things.
But now, she has been admitted to the University of Alabama at Birmingham Heersink School of Medicine at the age of 13 and is set to become a medical doctor at 18.
