Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State, has taken the oath of office as president and commander-in-chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Muhammadu Buhari’s eight-year presidency came to an end as a result.
With 8,794,726 votes, Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) defeated Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who received 6,984,520 votes. Peter Obi, 61, of the Labour Party (LP), who received 6,101,533 votes, finished third.
Tinubu becomes the Fourth Republic’s fifth democratically elected president of Nigeria.
His immediate predecessors were Olusegun Obasanjo (1999–2007), Goodluck Jonathan (2010–2015), Umaru Musa Yar’Adua (2007–2010), and Muhammadu Buhari (2015–2023).
