The management of West-Midlands Communication Limited is set to celebrate Oba (Dr.) Adebayo Akande, MFR, the company’s founding chairman, ‘s 84th birthday, and the 16th anniversary of Splash 105.5FM, the first privately owned radio station in Ibadan.
The event will include a free public lecture on Friday, July 21, at the University of Ibadan’s historic Trenchard Hall. The presentation will begin at 10 a.m.
According to the station’s general manager, Mr Tunde Olawuwo, the annual lecture is being planned to provide Nigerians with the right knowledge and instil moral principles. He also emphasised the importance of enlightening the populace on current affairs impacting society’s members.
During an appearance on Parrot Xtra/Ayekooto, hosted by Olayinka Agboola on Splash 105.5FM on Tuesday, Olawuwo made these contributions and disclosed that all preparations had been taken to make sure the event is a huge success.
He announced that Professor Adeola Adenikinju, a renowned economist and the first director of the University of Ibadan’s Centre for Petroleum Energy, Economics and Law (CPEEL), would be the guest speaker for the day and discuss “Fuel Subsidy Removal: Causes, Impact, Adjustment Responses.”
Many notable people will attend the event, including Chief Bayo Oyero, the former president of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes and the event’s chairman.
However, the general manager reassured all anticipated visitors that lives and property would be adequately protected, reiterating that all required safety precautions had been implemented in conjunction with the University of Ibadan administration.
He also used the chance to express his gratitude to the sponsors and listeners who have helped the media company in various ways over the past 16 years.
“We appreciate our listeners and advertisers. We are using this opportunity to pledge that the best is yet to come from us. We have been ahead of others and will continue working hard to keep the momentum. Splash 105.5FM and the sister station, Lagelu 96.7fm are the people’s stations.
