Federal Government Girls College (FGGC) students in Sagamu, Ogun State, have created a humanoid robot that can move a short distance, extend its hand, shake hands, and converse with others.
On Tuesday, in Abuja, the students presented their robotics innovation project to Andrew David Adejo, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education.
The 6 feet tall, 60-kilogramme robot, with a top speed of 10 km/h, was introduced as Okikiola-Sagamu, also known as Kiki-Saggy.
They claimed it was the brainchild of Dr Mrs Muyibat Olodo, the school’s principal and director, who has a penchant for technology, particularly coding robotics and artificial intelligence.
Adejo spoke and praised the institution’s and kids’ dedication and innovation.
The Permanent Secretary noted that robots now carry many tasks while challenging others to develop inventions of this nature.
The principal leads the college’s robotics team, which includes some students and staff members who serve as coaches. She mentioned this earlier in her welcome address.
In Federal Unity Colleges (FUCs), she observed, “Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Roboties are sawing good seeds.”
“You might be wondering why the name for this fantastic discovery was chosen. Since I started working at the College, with all due respect, Permanent Secretary Sir, FGGC Sagamu has become known for several initiatives and innovations.
“Definitely, FGGC Sagamu has a wealth of knowledge in her students and teachers.”
