Vice President of the National Association of Nigeria Travel Agencies (NANTA), Otunba Babatunde Adesokan, has called on the government at all levels to consider investment in tourism as a priority and give the sector the attention it deserves.
Otunba Babatunde Adesokan, VP of Western Zone, said this while speaking with journalists on World Tourism Day.
World Tourism Day is a day set aside by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation to sensitise the public and highlight the significance of tourism in fostering cultural exchange, economic growth and sustainable development.
Adesokan said that investment in tourism will not only enhance revenue drive but also enhance the creative industry and reduce unemployment among the youth.
Speaking on the World Tourism Day celebration, Adesokan said. It is beyond gathering people for fanfare alone; it should be about celebrating noticeable achievements in the sector and not just entertaining guests.
“Stakeholders’ focus should be more on development and promotion of domestic tourism, the government intervention should just be the provision of basic amenities and creating a conducive and secured environment for the domestic tourism to thrive.
“NANTA as an association will always be ready to work with any government or individuals in the area of tourism destinations development within the country,” he concluded.
