A 90-year-old Mississippi woman, Ellouise Lewis, received an honorary GED in what could be said to be the fulfilment of her lifelong dream of earning a diploma certificate. Reputable people in her community facilitated this.
According to WLOX, Ellouise Lewis received her honorary GED certificate during a special graduation ceremony at Gulfport Care Centre last month.
“I never did get a chance to graduate until this day,” Lewis told WLOX.
Ellousie Lewis, who quit school in the tenth grade, stated that she missed receiving her GED certificate by one question when she was younger and has always regretted not returning to acquire it. Her tale caught the attention of Gulfport Care Centre, and they agreed to assist her in realising her ambition.
The Gulfport Care Center posted on Wednesday that immediately they became aware of Ellousie Lewis’s story, their “team went right to work to help make it happen.”
She expressed delight when Ellousie Lewis was informed about the Gulfport Care Center’s mission to help her achieve her dream. “When they told me here I could get my GED, I was happy about that. I’m always happy. Excuse me, because it makes me happy to know I can do it,” Lewis commented.
The Gulfport Care Center’s Activities Director, Lisa Perdue, explained that she sought out a school and eventually found Wells of Southgate, which presented the certificate to Ellousie Lewis.
“She took a modified test and was presented with her honorary G.E.D. with family and friends cheering her on,” Gulfport Care Centre posted on Facebook.
