FORMER Governor of Ekiti State and one of the All Progressive Congress (APC) gubernatorial aspirants for the 2018 election in the state, Chief Segun Oni has offered foreign schorlarship to 60 Ekiti indigenes.
Oni offered the scholarship to the beneficiaries under the umbrella ofThe Young Progressives (TYP) Foreign Scholarship Scheme, which was established, following the official launch of The Young Progressives in August where the leading Guber aspirant promised to send 60 Ekiti Youths for undergraduate studies in Brazil.
At the inauguration was the Brazilian Ambassador to Nigeria, (Mrs.) Maria Figuereido, who assured the beneficiaries of every support within her capacity and charged them to focus more on the programme.
In her words, she said: “l am very pleased to be here, you are our favorite, you can be assured of our cooperation with the Consular in Lagos.”
Chief Oni, while making his remark said the programme has no political coloration as some people see it.
He maintained that the programme is to put Ekiti Youths in the world map again.
He said, “What we are trying to do is to make an Ekiti person an international potential. This is not about politics, but about putting our children on the world map.”
A parent of one of the beneficiaries of the Scholarship scheme, Mrs. Wuraola Olaleye Thomas, prayed for the aspiration of Chief Oni for bringing to fruition, his promises about the scholarship scheme.
Mrs. Thomas said, “we are proud of Chief Segun Oni for the programme. It’s one of its kind. We are solidly behind him and we pray that his aspiration to become Governor again comes to pass.”
Earlier in his remark, the Director-General of the Segun Oni Campaign Organization, Dr. Barrister Ife Arowosoge, appreciated the parents for allowing their children participate in programme.
He advised the parents to always look after their children to make sure they get the best out of the scheme.
He, however, noted that Chief Segun Oni was the first governor to have created a scholarship board in Ekiti.
In his words he said: “Ekiti people are begging Segun Oni to come back and contest because of the laudable programmes like this.
“He has done it before as Governor between 2007 and 2010 by becoming the first governor in Ekiti to create a scholarship board and he will do more, if elected again as Governor.”
