Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike

Share on WhatsappShare on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Linkedin

RIVERS State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, has threatened to expose compromised police officers reposted to the state if the Inspector General of Police fails to transfer them out of the state.

Wike said he had alerted the Acting Inspector General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris, about the reposting to the state of some police officers, who had allegedly been compromised by politicians.

The governor, who disclosed this on Monday while addressing medical practitioners at the Government House in Port Harcourt, described the development as a plot to reverse the gains made by the state in the promotion of security of lives and property.

He alleged that the said police officers were posted back to the state to carry out illegal duties.

Wike maintained that he would mention the names of the police officers through a state broadcast and the “ignominious” roles they played in compromising the security of the state.

He said that a senior police officer, who was indicted for aiding kidnappers and cultists in the state, had been posted back in the current attempt to manipulate the security architecture of the state.

The governor explained that the officer in question was posted out of Rivers State in March 2016 after the roles he played during the last rerun elections.

He said, “They are posting back security agents who have access to kidnappers. They are sending back security agents who will compromise the security of Rivers State.”

Wike, however, expressed regret that there was plot to politicise the security of lives and property in the state so as to make political gains at the expense of the peace loving Rivers people.

The governor maintained that those sent to the state by political interest groups to rig the forthcoming elections would receive the treatment reserved for armed robbers.
“They want to deny our people the peace we enjoy today by compromising our security network,” the governor stressed, advising that security agencies must learn a lesson from what happened in Turkey, where the people stood up to defend their mandate.

He added that the people of the state would always make necessary sacrifices to ward off compromised security agents posted to the state to frustrate the security network and steal their (people) mandate.
