CHAIRMAN, National Assembly committee on Information National Orientation, Ethics and Value, Hon Segun Dokun Odebunmi, has commended the decision of Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, to approve the creation of additional 35 Local Council Development Areas in the state.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmaker from Surulere/Ogo Oluwa Federal Constituency made the commendation while speaking at the presentation of gift and trophies to winners of a football competition in his honour at Iresaadu Baptist Primary school at the weekend, saying that the decision of the governor would boost grassroots development and give the people sense of belonging.
His words: “This is long overdue. As a former council chairman I have been an advocate of grassroots development, which can only be achieved through effective local government administration and with this LCDAS, the government would be able to penetrate the grassroots. So, Governor Ajimobi should be commended for the decision.”
Hon Odebunmi urged the people in the state to support the government to make the new LCDA functional, saying, “The LCDA will help our people, and develop the communities at the grassroots, while also creating more employment opportunities for our people; so we should support it and make it work.”
While speaking on why he sponsored football competition among primary schools in Surulere Local Government Area, the lawmaker said: “This is done to promote sport at the grassroot and expose our younger ones. We have a lot of talents in the rural areas and I believe with programs like this, they would be exposed, and advance their carriers in football and other forms of sport.
Five of the players who participated in the competition were selected to represent the local government at the state primary school team, while players from Arolu Zone won the trophy after defeating Ireasadu team with 4-5 penalty shootout.
