On Tuesday, the Elekokan community was in wild jubilation as Senator Abdulfatai Buhari, who represents the Oyo North Senatorial District, relieved the people of acute water scarcity by donating four motorised solar boreholes.
The borehole is among the 13 boreholes facilitated for 13 Oyo North Senatorial District communities.
Hundreds of community members trooped to the street to welcome and appreciate the Senator for what many termed a donation that would alleviate their age-long sufferings.
In their interaction with our reporter, some of the residents explained that the two major problems facing the communities were water and electricity. With this development, one is partly solved.
They said that they paid as much as N80.00 for 25 litres of water from the neighbouring community, about 4 kilometres away from their community.
Community leader Alhaji Abdulrasaq Salawudeen told our reporter that “every family has a well by the only river that passes through the town, and that has been the only water source for the people. We are happy to have this. Shina Peller did one, but it is not as big as this. This will definitely reduce our suffering,” he submitted.
We have been having promises from politicians, and they have been failing. Despite this, Senator Buhari has demonstrated his genuine love for the masses, embodying Omoluabi, by fulfilling his promises within the allotted time. We are expecting more, and we will also support him.
Speaking at the commissioning, Senator Buhari said the borehole was part of his campaign promises to the community’s people when he visited them in 2015 during the electioneering campaign.
He also assured them that he works with various stakeholders to ensure the community’s connection to the national grid.
While urging them to vote for the All Progressives Congress in the forthcoming election, the lawmaker said supporting the continuity of the APC’s government will afford them basic amenities and other benefits that will enhance their socio-economic lives.
Bubari, the chairman of the Senate Committee on ICT and Cybercrime, also commissioned boreholes in Isalu Iseyin, Okaka and Ilua in the Oke Ogun area of Oyo State.
