A former Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Chapter, and tourism writer, Comrade Wale Ojo-Lanre, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to create a separate Ministry for Culture and Tourism.
Ojo-Lanre made the charge in a one-man campaign to some Media Houses in Ibadan.
The multi-award tourism writer and Chief Press Secretary to the former Ekiti Governor, Engr. Segun Oni commenced the campaign at the Oyo NUJ Press Centre where the Chairman, Oyo State NUJ, Comrade Faniran, expressed his support and urged all journalists to support the call.
Then, he left for the Federal Radio Corporation Nigeria where the Zonal GM, Alhaji Bello, confounded him with his knowledge about tourism.
Bello spotlighted many grey areas of tourism.
The tourism aficionado, who was glad that tourism has a large following in Nigeria, appreciated Alhaji Bello and other members of the management of the Corporation for their support.
At NTA, Ibadan Zonal Office, the Zonal General Manager, Mrs Olorode, was very pleasant. The lady Engineer was very receptive to suggestions on how to polish NTA Ibadan as a tourism site.
Abass, one of the NAN reporters in Ibadan was so engrossed with the campaign that he urged the one-man-campaigner to visit the Oyo State Press Centre where other media houses fell in love with the crusade.
Ojo-Lanre, who referred to himself as a ‘Buharideian’ emphatically said: “Tourism is life. Life is tourism. I am a Buharideian and my only request is for President Muhammadu Buhari to create separate Culture and Tourism Ministry.”
