OYO State Governor-elect, Engineer Oluseyi Makinde, has been urged to ensure gender balance and give women functional roles to play in his government.
Erelu Asa of Nigeria, Duchess Funmi Rotiba, gave this advice in a congratulatory message to the governor-elect and his deputy.
Rotiba, a tour consultant and advocate of gender balance said the incoming governor should avoid relegating women to the background but place them where they will function and make meaningful contributions to his government
“The role of women in your electoral victory cannot be underrated, we need to showcase that we can also perform better even than men commissioner for works, education, health, SSG, Special Advisers on key issues and others.
“Remember sir whatever affect women affect the whole nation and we are not asking for too much but good governance that will make us happy by providing basic amenities and infrastructures that will enhance good living for all and sundry in the society.”
The cultural-inclined and tourism expert also urged the new government to use promotion of cultural heritage, tradition and tourism to boost the economy of the state.
“Tourism is money-spinning, and Oyo State is endowed with a lot of tourism potentials which has suffered great neglect from past governments, please and I want to implore you to please make an indelible mark in the sector because it will not only generate income, it will also reduce unemployment and enhance creativity.”
