Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, said at the weekend his administration will turn around the fortunes of Adeoyo State Hospital and score high marks in the health sector.

The Governor, who stated this during a visit to Adeoyo State Hospital, Yemetu, Ibadan, for an on-the-spot assessment, said that his government would make the hospital meet the standards of University College Hospital UCH.

He said: “Our aspiration is to ensure that people receive world-class treatment here. We don’t want everybody to be going to University College Hospital.

“We will make this hospital a very high standard that will be close to UCH standard.”

He added: “Health is one of the major pillars that my administration will rest on and will ensure that quality healthcare is available to the people.

Speaking further with the management of the health care centre, Makinde expressed concern over its poor state but maintained that “we would turn the hospital and other health centres across the state to world-class health centres that would be conducive for patients to receive quality treatment.

He rated the hospital’s facilities at 30 per cent, but vowed that “we want to get pass mark in the health sector.

The inspection was to ensure that the Governor had first-hand information about the state of the hospital and find means of transforming it to high high-standard health facility.

The governor, also, requested a shopping list of the management of the facilities that would make all the units in the hospital function effectively.

Amidat Agboola, the state’s Head of Service, accompanied him on the inspection.

While speaking inside the conference room of the hospital, Governor Makinde promised to improve the welfare of the workers and make their working conditions conducive.

He said: “For staff, we will do our best to motivate you, and when we are doing that, to whom much is given, much is also expected.”

Earlier, the hospital’s Chief Consultant, Dr. Soji Adeyanju, thanked the governor for the visit and promised to support the state government in its bid to take the the Oyo State health sector to greater heights.
