A 24-year-old man, Godwin Akpan, who allegedly raped a lady with Downs Syndrome, has said that he didn’t know what came over him to commit the act.
Akpan was arrested by the Ogun State Police Command from his residence in Sango-Ota following complaints by the victim’s sister.
According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the victim’s sister said that she sent the victim to close the gate of their house at about 6p.m on Tuesday, only for the suspect, who was their neighbour, to drag her into a room he had carnal knowledge of her.
“When the case was reported, the Divisional Police Officer, Sango Ota, CSP Godwin Idehai detailed his detectives to the scene where the suspect was promptly arrested,” the PPRO said.
Oyeyemi added that when the suspect was interrogated, he confessed to committing the offence, saying he did not know what made him do it.
