The police on Monday announced that it has arrested four persons who escaped from the Oko Prison in Edo State during the #EndSARS protest in the state.
The Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), DCP Frank Mba, made this known in Abuja while parading the rearrested convicts, as well as 30 other suspects arrested for various criminal activities.
Mba lamented the fact that the convicts now intimidate and harass not only police personnel, but operatives of other law enforcement agencies and judicial officers, just as he appealed to members of the public to report such criminals to the nearest police formation, or other law enforcement agencies for prompt action.
He disclosed that the police arrested the four convicts, including one on death row, and an ex-soldier in Kaduna, where they engaged in armed robbery and car-snatching immediately after they escaped from the correctional centre.
According to the police spokesperson, the suspects, arrested by the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) and the Special Tactical Squad (STS) of the Force Intelligence Burea (FIB) Abuja, had already made confessional statements.
The four convicts were alleged to have snatched a vehicle just 30 minutes after they escaped from prison and drove to Kaduna, where he sold the car with the help of one Alhaji Musa.
Mba explained further that the 34 suspects, including a woman arrested for illegal arms-dealing, were arrested for various crimes, including armed robbery, car theft, unlawful possession and illegal dealing of weapons.
He added that the police also recovered eight cars, eight AK-47 rifles and other assorted weapons.
One of the suspects confessed to snatching a car immediately after escaping from prison and sold it cheap in other to take care of his immediate needs.
