A group known as Ibadan Kinsmen has commended the Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde for his stance that the Ibadan traditional institution must revert to its original concept.

The group made the commendation while reacting to the visit of the governor to the family of the late Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji, Aje Ogunguniso 1, at his palace at Popoyemoja to pay a condolence visit to the late monarch’s family this afternoon.

In a statement signed by a member of the group, Hon. Akeem Ademola Ige said the governor’s statement has laid to rest the controversy that has brought about accusations and counter-accusations on the next person who should ascend the throne of Olubadan of Ibadanland,” since the demise of Oba Adetunji.

According to the statement, Governor Makinde deserves all accolades for his resolve that his administration will act by the wish of the late Olubadan, and that he would “do what is right to preserve the integrity and sanctity of the traditional institution of Ibadanland.

We think this categorical statement by the governor is clear enough and we appeal to all gladiators in this Ibadan traditional brouhaha to allow peace to reign especially the concerned Ibadan High chiefs by accepting that what the last administration did by elevating them to Oba’s status was done in bad faith to cause confusion and unrest in Ibadan Chieftaincy system.

With this, governor Makinde has demonstrated that he is a lover of peace and will never toy with anything that will demean the sanctity of the people’s values and norms in the State.

He is full of wisdom, highly intelligent and a respecter of culture and tradition that is cherished by the people,” the statement concluded.
