Five suspects were arrested at the scene of an attack on the convoy of Mrs Kafayat Oyetola, the wife of the governor of Osun State on Friday, August 19, 2022.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Yemisi Opalola, made this known in a statement on Saturday, August 20.
It will be recalled that some hoodlums attacked the convoy of the governor’s wife on Owode Ede Market Road, at about 8pm on Friday.
This was said to have been in retaliation for the action of security operatives attached to the governor’s wife to a truck driver.
The driver was reportedly on the road, blocking the passage of the convoy when one of the operatives went to him and hit him, resulting in him falling down and being injured.
The hoodlums in the vicinity descended on the convoy and the security personnel attached to it, shattered the glasses of the vehicles and used dangerous weapons to attack them, causing injuries to one of them.
SP Opalola said that the information on the attack prompted the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ede Division to go to the scene with detectives.
The PPRO stated further that the police officers met the Chief Security Officer to the governor, CSP Dauda Ismail, who briefed them of an unregistered truck driver, one Omolola Opeyemi from Ijebu -Ode, Ogun State, blocking the movement of the First Lady, which led to his being wounded on the forehead in the course of telling him to give way.
“Some hoodlums took advantage of that and started stoning the convoy vehicles which got a Department of State Services (DSS) personnel wounded,” the spokeswoman said.
She added that investigations were in progress, promising an update on the matter.
