Nigerian musician and actor Charles Chukwuemeka Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, took to Twitter on Thursday, September 1, 2022, to declare support for the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
Charly Boy also spoke of his intention to stage the biggest rally ever for Obi. He said he would have the rally before the end of the month.
He declared on Twitter, “Hummmm, finally on Kakaki today, I publicly endorsed Peter Obi. Before this month runs out, I will stage the biggest rally ever. Who’s with me at the rally?”
The septuagenarian artiste had said in June that he would relocate to Ghana if either Bola Tinubu or Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidates of All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), respectively, win next year’s presidential election.
When Peter Obi visited last month, Charly Boy was with his music industry colleague, Seun Kuti.
REPORTERS AT LARGE recently reported that the former Anambra governor visited a popular Afrobeat musician, Femi Kuti, according to a video clip online. Others present during the meeting included Charles Oputa, known better as Charly Boy.
During the visit, Peter Obi assured the popular Afrobeat musician that his ‘Obidient movement’ will base its campaign on issues rather than personality attacks.
He said that his campaign would be based on everyday issues affecting Nigerians and Nigeria, adding that the recent controversy was not what the movement and his ambition stand for.
“I saw what my own brother, Femi, tweeted, and I said no! That is not the future and the society we want to build.
“We will lead a campaign based on issues that affect Nigerians, and that is what I encourage everybody to do,” Peter Obi said while addressing Femi in the video clip.
