Elijah Muhammad recently became the youngest black college student, enrolling at Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC) as a freshman at 12.
Elijah Jr. told KFOR that he shocked his classmates when he first walked into class.
“A bunch of them were like, ‘How old are you?'” he recalled. “Once I told them my age, they all got surprised.”
Elijah is a homeschooled senior in high school who attends OCCC to study cybersecurity.
He’s enrolled in three classes right now: computer technology, computer operating systems, and computer hardware.
Elijah recalled the looks on his classmates’ faces when he first introduced himself in class. How old are you? Some of them inquired. They were all astonished when I announced my age.
Elijah’s accomplishment was not wholly surprising because he came from a prosperous household.
His older sister, Shania Muhammad, became the 14-year-old student ever to earn degrees from both OCCC and Langston University, making history only last May.
The brothers and sisters always engage in healthy competition, according to their father, Elijah Muhammad Sr.
When he sees her completing specific things, he assumes that I’m next and can handle it, said Elijah Sr. We act as a support system for our pupils.
Even though they are competitors, Elijah acknowledges that his older sister is a big help to him.
“We have a lot of rivalries. But she helps me,” said Elijah, who is on track to surpass his sister’s record as the state’s youngest graduate.
“We have a lot of rivalries. But she helps me out with a lot of my schoolwork,” said Elijah, who is on track to surpass his sister’s record as the youngest graduate in the state.
Elijah is a record-breaking great student, a three-time state champion wrestler, and an entrepreneur with his own apparel company, Smart Boy.
