A security man, 70-year-old Mr Ganiyu, working with a private company on Ogbomoso-Ilorin expressway, was on Monday abducted by gunmen in Orile Igbon, Oyo State, at about 9:30pm.
It was learnt that the septuagenarian, who is also a farmer, was abducted from his home at Agric Area, Ojutaye and taken to an unknown destination.
The kidnappers were said to have demanded a ransom of N10 million before the victim would regain his freedom.
A credible source who craved anonymity told the Nigerian Tribune that the family had refused to involve the police in the negotiation of the victim’s release because of fear that the kidnappers could think of it is a move to get them arrested.
However, on receiving the report, police operatives, in collaboration with Amotekun Corps and local vigilantes, reportedly stormed the surrounding bush and started combing it to rescue the kidnap victim.
It was learnt that a victim, who is a cattle owner and butcher, was kidnapped last Saturday on Igbeti Road, after Ikoyi-Ile.
He was said to have been stopped and abducted when he parked his vehicle and mounted a motorcycle to check his cows in the bush.
The credible source said that though the victim struggled with the abductors, he was overpowered and taken inside the forest.
The following morning, however, he noticed that his abductors were in deep sleep after taking hard drugs which allowed him to escape, but with injuries on one of his arms.
