Abia women can now inherit and own properties in their father’s family as the Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu, has signed the female inheritance bill into law.

The citation for the law is ‘The Female Persons Right of Inheritance of Property Law 2022’. It was passed in the Abia State House of Assembly.

While congratulating the women of Abia on the feat, Ikpeazu said his administration would continue to support women.

The governor added that his administration would use reason and common sense to discharge its obligations to residents, noting that women would no longer be treated as second-class citizens, even in their families.

Ikpeazu hailed the state assembly for passing the bill, adding that the female inheritance bill is the most important legislation passed by the state house.
