Thursday, February 23rd, 2023, will continue to linger in the memories of Oloye Lekan Alabi and the planning committee for his 50th anniversary as a media icon.
The planning committee, led by Oloye Lekan Alabi and Comrade Seun Awodele, the Chairman of FIBAN in Oyo State, was on a thank-you visit to the Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi (Ojaja II), in his Palace at Enu’wa, Ile Ife, in Osun State for sending a royal representation to the activities commemorating 2023 UNESCO World Radio Day, which was dedicated to honouring Oloye Lekan Alabi’s 50 years of media exploits.
The opening prayer was said by Hon. Femi Adebisi, followed by the introduction of the delegation by Taiwo Oguntoye, Special Adviser on media to the FIBAN Chairman.
Giving an account of the world radio event, the Chairman, Oyo FIBAN, Comrade Seun Awodele, handed over a letter of appreciation and the program souvenir to Ooni, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi (Ojaja II). This was followed by the presentation of the proposed N500 million Oloye Lekan Alabi Media Resource Center, launched at the World Radio Day celebration to immortalise Oloye Lekan Alabi and serve as a capacity development centre for journalists and broadcasters across Nigeria.
In his response to the thank-you speech of Oloye Lekan Alabi and the presentation made by Comrade Seun Awodele, Oba Adeyeye eulogised the media sagacity and dexterity of Oloye Lekan Alabi and thanked all the members of the planning committee for a job well done and charged the committee members to go and plan for the sod turning and flag-off of the proposed media centre named after Oloye Lekan Alabi as a way of meeting the funding need of the project. The Ooni of Ife pledges to use his influence to bring potential donors to the event, and he also commits to personally serving as the chief launcher.
Finally, the vote of thanks was performed by Bisola Iyadunni in a chant way in favour of Ooni, and a Group photograph was taken. Olori Yetunde Olaniyan said the closing prayer.
