A new President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who will steer the ship of Nigeria for the next four years has been sworn in.
The 71-year-old former governor of Lagos State, Tinubu, took office as president of Nigeria on Monday, May 29 at Eagle Square in Abuja.
At precisely 10:28 and 10:38 a.m., Tinubu and Kashim Shettima received their oaths of office from the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola.
“I, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, solemnly swear that I shall be honest to the Federal Republic of Nigeria and bear true allegiance to it and that I will uphold, defend, and safeguard its constitution. So please, God, help me,” the new president vowed.
Tinubu’s predecessors, including Muhammadu Buhari and Goodluck Jonathan, were present for the swearing-in ceremony.
Remi Tinubu, Nana Shettima, and Aisha Buhari, wives of the candidates, were present for the oath-taking event.
The new prime minister of Gabon, Billy By-Nze; the president of the Republic of Cote D’Ivoire, Alassane Ouattara; the president of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo, and the president of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, were among the African leaders who witnessed the historic event at the venue, which was exquisitely decorated with the nation’s colours of green, white, and green.
Dignitaries including Akinwumi Adesina, Aliko Dangote, Femi Otedola, Abdulsamad Rabiu, and Jim Ovia were present at the inauguration site as well.
Service chiefs, heads of security organisations, governors, previous governors, serving and former ministers, and APC chieftains are among the others attending.
