A few hours after he and his lover checked into a hotel, a 43-year-old Catholic priest was declared dead.
A local media site reported on Sunday that the deceased, Joseph Kariuki Wanjiku, from St. Peters Ruai, had checked into the Monalisa Hotel Delview in Gatanga on Saturday night with his lover, Ruth Nduhi, 32.
The woman reportedly told the hotel administration on Sunday morning that the cleric was feeling lightheaded and was about to pass out, according to a police complaint.
They decided to drive him urgently to Kenol Hospital in Murang’a out of concern for his health.
But the sad sequence of events didn’t stop there; when Kariuki got to the hospital, he was already dead.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances of his death after the untimely death sparked concerns.
“One Joseph Kariuki Wanjiku aged 43yrs old, a Catholic priest at Archdiocese of Nairobi and a farmer in the Mangu area checked in at the said hotel together with his girlfriend who also happens to be her colleague at the workplace in Ruai,”
“Then, this morning at around 0800hrs, the priest’s girlfriend notified the hotel management that the boyfriend was dizzy and getting unconscious so that they could rush him to the hospital. They then rushed him to Kenol Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.”
As police commence their inquiries to determine the reason of his death, the body has been sent to the Mater Hospital Mortuary.
