Confusion reigned supreme in Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, after residents discovered a yet-to-be-identified naked man hanging on a tree.
It was learnt from a source who pleaded anonymity on Thursday that the incident happened on Saturday.
According to The Punch, the source disclosed that residents of the area had discovered the body hanging from a tree in an undeveloped parcel of land in the new market area of Ilishan.
A photo of the scene sighted by our correspondent showed the man, without clothes, dangling from a rope tied to his neck and the tree, in what was suspected to be a suicide.
The source explained that residents were alarmed by the incident and alerted the police of the discovery.
The source noted that the body was recovered by police operatives, community leaders, and health officials from the local government.
The source wrote, “On Saturday, June 7, 2025, residents of Ilishan discovered a body hanging on a tree in an undeveloped plot of land in the New Market area, and they alerted the police to the scene of the incident.
“Upon the arrival of law enforcement agencies, they found the dead body of an unidentified naked male adult hanging from a tree. However, the community leaders and health officials were contacted for body evacuation.”
A senior police officer who did not want to be mentioned in the press because of a lack of authorisation to speak with the press disclosed that details of the incident had been forwarded to the police headquarters.
He urged our correspondent to get further details from the command.
“The details have been sent to the command. You can reach out to the command,” the officer said.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, had yet to respond to inquiries when contacted for a reaction to the incident on Thursday.
