The three senators from Oyo State, all from the All Progressives Congress (APC), have emerged as chairmen of three Senate committees.
Sharafadeen Alli (Oyo South) emerged as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Senator Abdulfatai Buhari (Oyo North) became the Chairman, Senate Committee on Aviation. Similarly, Senator Yunus Akintunde emerged as the Chairman, Senate Committee on Environment.
President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, announced the new chairmen of the Standing Committees at the Red Chambers of the National Assembly, on Monday.
Senators Alli and Akintunde are first-term lawmakers, while Senator Buhari is a third-term lawmaker.
The three senators from Oyo State emerged victorious in the senatorial electoral contest held last February.
Senator Sharafadeen Alli was also appointed the Vice-Chairman of the Senate Committee on Customs.
Alli had variously served as Secretary to the Oyo State Government, Chief of Staff, Ibadan North Local Government Chairman and Chairman, of Odu’a Investment Company Limited.
The former president of the Omo Ajorosun Club in Ibadan is a senior chief in Ibadanland, holding the position of Maye Balogun.
Meanwhile, Alli has continued to receive congratulatory messages from groups and prominent Nigerians immediately after the announcement.
A release by his media aide contained various congratulatory messages, which described the appointment as well deserved and a round peg in a round hole.
They all expressed confidence in Senator Alli’s capabilities to lead the Senate committees on INEC and Customs and achieve unprecedented successes.
