A flood that affected several communities in the Gada and Dange-Shuni LGAs of Sokoto State has forced about 2,000 people to leave their homes.
The Director of Relief and Rehabilitation in the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Mustapha Umar, who disclosed this, said many houses and farmlands were submerged in the areas.
He said about 1,700 people were affected in Gada LGA, with about 600 hectares of farmland submerged, adding that many farm animals and foodstuffs were lost in the area.
He listed the communities affected in Gada LGA, including Dantudu, Balakozo, Gidan-Tudu and Tsitse.
He, however, said they were still assessing the situation in Dange-Shuni to ascertain the number of residents affected and the level of damage done by the disaster.
Meanwhile, the leader of the state APC and Senator representing Sokoto North, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, sympathised with the victims.
In a statement signed by his media aide, Bashar Abubakar, Wamakko prayed to the Almighty Allah to bring succour to the victims.
