In a world where access to clean water remains a fundamental challenge, one man has risen as a beacon of innovation and resilience. Engr. Michael Oludare Ale, an Ekiti-born visionary, has devoted his career to reshaping the landscape of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) in Nigeria and beyond. As a development expert, serial entrepreneur, and sustainability advocate, his groundbreaking contributions have positioned him as a leading figure in global water resource management.
This Ekiti man was one time member board of Governor of World Water Council, WWC, Paris, France the highest water policy making body in the world.

Engr. Ale’s academic background laid the foundation for his extraordinary career. With a B.Sc. in Geology and Mineral Science from the University of Ilorin, a Professional Master’s in Project Development and Implementation from the University of Ibadan, and specialized training in UNIDO COMFAR III (Austria, 2010), he combined technical expertise with strategic development skills. He is currently pursuing an M.Sc. in Hydro-Engineering Geology at the University of Ibadan, further solidifying his commitment to the field.

As the Founder and CEO of Global Initiative for Nigeria Development (GIND), Engr. Ale has transformed the WASH sector through high-impact community projects. His expertise in project auditing, monitoring, and evaluation has led to innovative solutions that enhance project sustainability and effectiveness.
His notable contributions include the development of the Project Outcome Validation Aggregator (POVA)—a framework designed to address gaps in project quality and sustainability. He has led WASH projects for organizations such as UNICEF and state governments, ensuring compliance with global standards. His efforts have been pivotal in water infrastructure development, providing clean and safe water to communities, improving public health, and enhancing economic resilience.

Beyond his technical achievements, Engr. Ale has played a pivotal role in professionalizing the borehole drilling industry in Nigeria. As the Founding President of the Association of Waterwell Drilling Rig Owners and Practitioners (AWDROP), he has championed best practices and regulations that have elevated industry standards. His advocacy extends to his role as the President of the Association of Project Development Practitioners (APRODEP), where he works to enhance project development methodologies in Nigeria.

Engr. Ale’s influence has reached global platforms, as he has represented Nigeria at major international conferences, including the World Bank/IFC Annual Meetings, World Water Forums, and UNEP SAICM Meetings.

His leadership in the Nigerian Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) has contributed to shaping the country’s post-MDG (Millennium Development Goals) strategies, ensuring sustainable development remains a top priority.

Engr. Ale’s contributions to academia and research

His publications on groundwater quality, urban flood control, and WASH infrastructure evaluation have influenced policy-making and improved water management strategies. He has conducted water point audits and infrastructure assessments for state and national projects, providing data-driven insights for sustainable solutions.
Beyond his professional achievements, Engr. Ale is deeply committed to youth empowerment and entrepreneurship. Through his Male Knowledge Academy, he provides young professionals with knowledge, mentorship, and leadership training. His passion for unlocking the potential of young minds ensures that the future of sustainable development remains in capable hands.

For his outstanding work, Engr. Ale has received numerous accolades, including the Award Fellow for Innovation and Technology at TED Global Conference, Tanzania, and recognition as a thought leader in sustainable development and water governance.

His professional affiliations further attest to his influence in the industry as an Executive Member of APRODEP and AWDROP, and a Member of the Nigeria Mining and Geoscience Society (NMGS), Nigeria Association of Hydro-Geologists (NAH), and Nigeria Association of Evaluators (NAE).

At the core of Engr. Ale’s work is a philosophy of collaborative innovation and inclusive governance. He believes that sustainable development is not just about providing infrastructure but ensuring that solutions align with community needs and drive long-term impact. His engagement with global institutions such as the World Bank, UNEP, and UNESCO-IHE underscores his dedication to addressing Nigeria’s most pressing development challenges. His visionary leadership continues to inspire professionals in the WASH sector and beyond, proving that one man’s commitment can transform lives and uplift entire communities.

Outside his professional endeavors, Engr. Ale is a passionate advocate for youth leadership. Whether mentoring young entrepreneurs or speaking at international forums, he remains dedicated to empowering the next generation of change-makers and hence he is a member of Board of Trustees, Dominion University, Ibadan
