An explosion at a military storage facility in Ilese Barracks, Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, triggered a fire that damaged parts of the building.
The facility, belonging to the 42 Engineers Brigade Counter Improvised Explosive Device Squadron, was affected after a device exploded inside one of its storage buildings.
Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Maj. Gen. Appolonia Anele, confirmed the incident in a statement, describing it as a “localised explosion that led to a limited fire outbreak.”
“Specifically, in the early hours of August 14, 2025, a localised explosion occurred within one of the storage buildings of the 42 Engineers Brigade Counter Improvised Explosive Device Squadron, leading to a limited fire outbreak,” she said.
Anele noted that troops from the 12 Field Engineer Regiment, in collaboration with the Ijebu Ode Fire Service, swiftly contained the fire.
“Importantly, no lives were lost, and no injuries were sustained. The structural damage was confined to the affected building and some stored materials,” she added.
Anele urged residents of Ilese and surrounding communities to remain calm, assuring that the Nigerian Army, in partnership with relevant agencies, has launched an investigation to determine the cause and prevent a recurrence.
“The Nigerian Army remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all its personnel as well as members of neighbouring communities,” the statement added.
