In a heartwarming display of commitment to education, Mr. Babatunde Tijani, an alumnus of Abiodun Atiba Memorial Institute in Oyo, has awarded N1 million to outstanding students and staff at the school’s 44th valedictory service and prize-giving day.

This gesture aims to counter the narrative that “education is a scam” by recognising and rewarding hard work and academic excellence.

The Award Winners

The Overall Best Graduating Student, who also emerged as the best science student, Memunat Oyetunde, received a total of N400,000; the Best Science Student, Memunat Oyetunde (N200,000); the Best Arts Student, Jewel Olaoba (N200,000); and the Best Commerce Student, Faizat Oparemi (N200,000); while school staff received N200,000 as a token of appreciation for their efforts in shaping future leaders.

Tijani’s Contribution

Tijani, who was represented at the ceremony by his sister, Ms. Omobola Tijani, emphasised the importance of staying focused and committed to academic pursuits.

He also paid tribute to his former teachers, acknowledging their influence on his academic and personal development.

“In memory of my late father, Chief Abdul-Lateef Eyitayo Tijani, who served as vice principal of this great institution from 1981 to 1988, and as my humble contribution to the school, I am delighted to award N200,000 each to the best students in science, arts, and commerce.

“Additionally, the overall valedictorian will receive N200,000. I am also pleased to gift the principal and teachers of Abiodun Atiba Memorial Institute the sum of N200,000 as a token of appreciation for their tireless efforts in shaping future leaders,” he said.

This is not Tijani’s first contribution to the school; he has previously donated multimillion Naira projects, including the renovation of a block of six classrooms, 240 modern tables and desks, the installation of a modern borehole, the renovation of the school mosque, and the annual sponsorship of TJ BAB’S House during the school inter-house sports competition.

School Principal’s Remarks

The school principal, Mr. Razak Raheem, praised Tijani for his consistent contributions to the development of the school, particularly in infrastructure and student empowerment.

He also lauded Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde for creating a conducive atmosphere for teachers in the state. Raheem advised the graduating students to avoid social vices and focus on building successful futures.
