Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Stanley Olajide is the PDP consensus candidate to beat as the race for the 2027 Oyo State governorship intensifies.

The media office of the two-term federal lawmaker assured that his veteran status and back-to-back electoral victories make him the only logical choice for the ticket. This followed Governor Seyi Makinde’s call for a unified front.

The Push for a Unified Front

Governor Makinde recently indicated at a stakeholders’ meeting that the party would prefer a consensus approach. This method seeks to avoid internal friction before the Oyo 2027 election.

Tolu Mustapha, Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs to “Olajide Odidiomo,” noted that the lawmaker possesses the most compelling credentials. Speaking with the Nigerian Tribune, Mustapha argued that Olajide’s political experience and grassroots connection place him in a prime position.

“Hon. Olajide stands out clearly among all the aspirants. He is the most senior elected political office holder in the race, a serving two-term member of the House of Representatives who has won elections back to back,” Mustapha said.

A Proven Electoral Track Record

A key factor in selecting a PDP consensus candidate is the ability to win. Mustapha highlighted that Olajide’s consistent victories demonstrate deep public confidence. Beyond his popularity, the lawmaker has remained a loyal party member, contributing to the PDP’s stability in Oyo State.

Bridging the Religious Divide

In a diverse state like Oyo, the ability to unite different faiths is vital. Mustapha described Hon. Adedeji Stanley Olajide as a “bridge builder” who enjoys support across religious lines.

“Religious balance is a critical factor in our political environment and Hon. Olajide represents that balance. He is widely accepted across different segments of society,” Mustapha stated. He noted that despite being a Muslim, Olajide has contributed significantly to the growth of the Christian faith across the state.

Governance and Digital Vision

Hon. Olajide currently serves as the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Digital, Information Communication Technology, and Cybersecurity. His supporters believe this role proves he understands modern governance. His record includes:

  •  Critical infrastructure interventions.
  •  Digital inclusion projects.
  •  Social welfare and empowerment programmes.

Financial Capacity and Grassroots Appeal

Mustapha maintained that the lawmaker has the resources required for a credible campaign. Furthermore, his influence stretches from Ibadan to Oke-Ogun.

“Out of all the aspirants, Hon. Olajide is the only one who has contested elections twice and won consecutively. That alone speaks volumes about his electoral track record,” Mustapha concluded.

As the party prepares for 2027, the focus remains on finding a leader who can sustain the developmental strides of the Makinde administration.
