A prominent group within the Oyo State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has vowed to resist any attempt to destabilise the peace of the state through a rumoured Governor Seyi Makinde impeachment.
The Oyo PDP-Visionaries declared on Tuesday that chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and other highly-placed figures will fail in their “evil plan” to derail the current administration. The group’s statement follows reports of a secret plot to bribe the House of Assembly to initiate a Governor Seyi Makinde impeachment process, a move they claim is being orchestrated by desperate opposition elements.
”Doomed to Fail”: Oyo State PDP Vows to Protect Mandate
The group maintained that Oyo State residents would flatly reject any move to unseat the Governor. Qudus Olayide, the Coordinator of the Oyo PDP-Visionaries, issued a firm warning from Ibadan. He noted that those behind the scheme had failed to do their homework.
Olayide stated:
“Those behind the impeachment plot failed to do their homework to know that residents of Oyo State won’t allow unscrupulous elements jeopardise the peace being enjoyed in the state.”
The group argued that the state is now too sophisticated for a repeat of the political turmoil seen in 2006. They labelled the current move as one driven by “pure selfish, devilish tendencies.”
Allegations of External Influence
The group further alleged that individuals involved, including former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, are acting out scripts for financial gain. While Mrs Florence Ajimobi, wife of the former Governor, has distanced herself from the claims, the group pointed to recent APC Oyo State statements as proof of hostile intent.
According to the Visionaries, the APC’s claim that Makinde should have been impeached long ago shows the party has “a case to answer.” They warned these “anarchists” to stay away or face the anger of a public already stretched by federal policies.
Governor Seyi Makinde Impeachment Talk: A Warning to Olubadan
In a significant move, the group also addressed the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Senator Rashidi Ladoja. They advised the monarch to remain above the political fray.
The group expressed concern over the monarch’s frequent visits to Aso Rock, suggesting the APC might use these interactions to tarnish his image.
“Receiving Fayose in the middle of the whole drama also sent a wrong signal,” the group noted, urging the royal father to “not drag the highly esteemed throne into dirty politics.”
The PDP-Visionaries highlighted that Governor Makinde has always shown great respect to the Olubadan, maintaining a “father-son relationship” over the years. They expressed disappointment that the monarch’s name was even mentioned alongside talk of impeachment.
