A sociopolitical group, Greater Anambra Initiative (GAIN), has enjoined the Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Willie Obiano, to concentrate on the people oriented projects, which his administration is embarking on in the state, and ignore distractions from the “enemies of progress in the state.”

The group made the call in a statement, jointly signed by its Publicity Secretary, Prince Kennedy Chigozie, and Organising Secretary, Hon. Chiejina Anthony Obieze, and made available to journalists in Abuja on Saturday.

Chigozie said the dissatisfaction and attacks of the United Peoples Party (UPP) on the Anambra Cargo Airport, which would be sited in Umuleri, Anambra State, “is groundless; deceptive and grossly unacceptable; a mere attempt to distract the our working Governor Willie Obiano.”

The release read in part: “We want to make it clearer to Ndi Anambra that work began on the site and is still on after the ground breaking ceremony. Umuleri is not abroad, but in Nigeria, Anambra State, such that any doubting Thomas can go and find out.

“We wonder why a UPP should engage in such highly unacceptable destructive propaganda if not to decieve our people, especially those in the diaspora.

“It is disheartening and regreasive to see some people politicking on a laudable and landmark project of that magnitude, which no doubt will better the lots of the state and it’s good people.

“It is of note that in the past 16 years of uninterrupted democracy in Nigeria, many administrations have tried to come up with such but none was achieved.

“Governor Obiano deserves a path in the back for his dogged efforts to bring practical transformation to Anambra State. He has been doing this since he assumed office. But the opposition parties are working on taking the state back through their destructive criticism and attacks on the governor.

“As a progressive group with the genuine interest of Anambra State, we promised Ndi Anambra to keep them informed with governance in Anambra State and we are not partisan about it. We have taken a survey of the current Willie Obiano’s administration as well as an opinion polls accross the state, and from our findings Willie is working.

“Under Obiano, Anambra has taken a new look in areas of infrastructure development, security, education, agriculture, comerce, toyrism and industry.

“Greater Anambra Initiative (GAIN) want to urge all political parties in Anambra to desist from politics of condemnation and defamation, especially as the 2017 polls approaches. Instead they should prepare to tell Ndi Anambra what they intend to do with strong proofs if given the chance.”
