The Chairman, Oyo State Local Government Service Commission (LGSC), Bashorun Akinwale Solomon Akinwole, has concluded critical strategic meetings with all Heads and Acting Heads of Local Governments (HLGAs & Ag. HLGAs), as well as all Directors of Works across local governments in the state.

The meetings, held at the Commission’s headquarters, focused on key operational issues affecting service delivery at the grassroots level.

Raising Standards in Oyo State Local Government

In his address, the Chairman, Bashorun Akinwale, appreciated the HLGAs and acting HLGAs and the Directors of Works as good representatives of the Commission in their various local governments and local council areas.

Speaking further at the quarterly meeting, the Commission’s boss harped on the need for the accounting officers to ensure that the tone of discipline is raised through punctuality, dedication to work, enhanced efficiency and effectiveness in service delivery to justify the kind gesture of the state government under the compassionate and visionary leadership of Engr Seyi Makinde FNSE, DSc, GSSRS.

“To whom much is given, much is equally expected. Against this backdrop, there’s no gainsaying the fact that the welfare of both serving and retired workers in Oyo State has worn a new look, with the improved state economy, while the whole state is in a conducive atmosphere, thereby attracting people and investors from other states and countries, courtesy of our God-Sent Man (GSM),” Basorun Akinwale stated.

He further enjoined the council administrative heads to ensure full compliance by their staff with government policies, thereby strengthening governance at the grassroots.

Basorun Akinwale concluded by affirming that through the magnanimity of Governor Seyi Makinde, the Commission had concluded the 2025 promotion exercise and was set to begin issuing the promotion letters to the successful staff.

New Financial Guidelines for Local Government Reforms

In his own address at the meeting, the State Auditor-General for Local Governments, Mogaji Bioku Ismail, underscored the imperative of early submission of their routine reports; the need to have a uniform and standard financial statement; making sure that council vehicles and equipment are secure within their various secretariats, as well as timely reporting of any observed financial infraction.

Earlier in his opening remarks, the Commission’s Permanent Secretary, Pastor Adeola Oduola, charged the invited council’s accounting officers on the need to be above board, be proactive in action by thinking outside the box, liaise with their respective zonal permanent secretaries on matters within their purview to alleviate the burden on the Commission, ensure the bar of governance is raised by setting the pace for their team players, while not forgetting to reward excellence, hard work, efficiency and effectiveness in service delivery as a morale booster among the members of staff.

Restructuring Welfare via Strategic Meetings

Also in attendance to brief the august gathering on the resuscitated Housing Loan Scheme by the pacesetter state was the Regional Manager of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (Ibadan), Mrs. Toyin Jinadu, together with the Operational Manager, Mrs. Funmilayo Sotumininu.

In attendance were all Commissioners: Alhaji Yusuf Ali Akinkunmi, Alhaji Hakeem Taiwo Oke, Hon. Christiana Nike Arewa, and Hon. Oladejo Emmanuel Oladokun, JP.

Also present were the Zonal Permanent Secretaries: Mogaji Kola Alaga (Ibadan Zone 1), Mrs Titi Adesina (Oyo Zone), Alhaji Busari Amusat (Oke Ogun Zone 1), Mr. Iyiola Olalekan (Oke Ogun Zone 2), Dr. Kafilat Adefunke Hamzat (Ibarapa Zone) and Mr. Thomas Oguntona (Ogbomoso Zone).

Other key officials included the Commission’s Acting HLGA, Mr. Adedayo Solaja; Directors of Finance and Supplies, Budget, Planning, Research and Statistics, Mr. Badiru Adedokun and Prince Rasheed Olabiyi, respectively; and the Deputy Director of Administration and General Services, Alhaji Jelili Alade.
