The long-suffering commuters, residents, and traders along the Adeoyo State Hospital axis are set for a major breakthrough as a comprehensive road rehabilitation project gets underway to fix the crucial route linking Ring Road and Adeoyo Roundabout to Olororo Junction in Orita Challenge.
The project represents a critical upgrade for Ibadan road infrastructure, kicking off after a joint assessment led by Hon Adedeji Olajide Odidiomo alongside officials from the Oyo State Road Management Agency (OYSTROMA) to establish the exact scope of engineering work required for a total overhaul of the transit line.
The joint site inspection was conducted to gather precise technical measurements and outline the critical structural needs of the entire stretch. Engineers focused heavily on evaluating the existing drainage infrastructure, identifying damaged culverts, and marking key points along the corridor that require immediate civil intervention.
According to an official statement issued by Tolu Mustapha, Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs to Hon. Olajide, the upcoming project goes well beyond temporary surface patches. Mustapha emphasized that the state agency and engineering team are preparing for a complete structural overhaul of the busiest transit corridor in the area.
“Drainage and culvert works would commence in the coming days, with the drainage component expected to precede the major roadwork to ensure that the underlying water flow problems are properly addressed before the road is resurfaced,” Mustapha stated, clarifying the strategic engineering sequence adopted for the project.
The planned rollout strategy ensures that hydrological issues are completely resolved before heavy equipment rolls in for the final asphalt application. Local transport corridors in the region often suffer from rapid erosion when water management systems are neglected during resurfacing projects.
Mustapha added that “following the completion of the necessary drainage works, tarring of the road would commence immediately. The sequence, according to him, is intended to ensure that the road rehabilitation is properly executed and that the newly laid surface is protected from avoidable damage caused by inadequate and poor drainage infrastructure.”
This key artery serves as an indispensable transit corridor across the capital. It provides daily access to the Adeoyo State Hospital, major commercial hubs, high-density residential neighborhoods, and vital public institutions spanning Ring Road, Adeoyo, and Orita Challenge. Upgrading this network will cut commute times, safeguard commercial transport, and ease daily access to public healthcare facilities.
Explaining the political and social motivation behind the infrastructure drive, Mustapha noted that the initiative aligns directly with the public service philosophy of the lawmaker. He affirmed that the project reflects the dedication of “Hon. Olajide Odidiomo, who is the Oyo South senatorial candidate of the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM), in the coming 2027 general election’s commitment to pursuing practical solutions to infrastructure challenges affecting residents and motorists, particularly through engagement with relevant authorities and technical agencies.
Civil engineering teams are finalizing site preparation to clear blocked channels along the transit line. Mustapha concluded that “the immediate commencement of drainage and culvert works would mark the first phase of the rehabilitation process, while the subsequent tarring would complete the major surface work on the affected road corridor.”
