The South West Guild of Online Publishers (SWEGOP) has issued a strong warning to political actors against using false allegations and misinformation as campaign tools, urging them instead to champion issue-based campaigns.
In a statement addressing the current Nigerian political landscape, the media body emphasized that democratic processes must focus strictly on clear policy presentation, social development plans, and realistic solutions to urgent public challenges.
Online Publishers Condemn Political Misinformation
Speaking on behalf of the guild, acting Chairman Chief Tunde Busari and Publicity Secretary Mr Remi Oladoye declared that political campaigns ought to highlight constructive ideas rather than personal attacks.
The guild insisted that politicians must demonstrate their true capacity to govern by presenting clear roadmaps to solve public needs. They cautioned that unsubstantiated accusations and deliberate misinformation erode public trust and destabilise democratic participation across the nation.
“The South West Guild of Online Publishers has cautioned politicians against using unfounded information and false allegations as campaign strategies, urging them to focus on issue-based campaigns and present their programmes to the electorate,” the statement noted.
The organisation urged all political figures to adopt responsible communication habits that promote peaceful, meaningful engagement among voters.
Online Publishers Demand Action on Bad Road Infrastructure
Shifting attention to critical national development, the guild called on federal and state authorities to declare an immediate state of emergency on roads damaged heavily by recent heavy rainfall.
Addressing the growing crisis of bad road infrastructure, the media body expressed deep concern over flooded, washed-away motorways that continue to cause immense hardship for commuters, transport workers, and everyday road users.
The guild stressed that decaying road networks require swift intervention through emergency rehabilitation, improved drainage installations, and long-term preventive engineering.
Without immediate repairs, severe road conditions threaten public safety, delay daily transit, and cripple local commercial activities during peak rain periods.
Media Group Urges Coordinated Federal and State Interventions
To prevent further economic breakdown, the publishers demanded unified action across all government tiers to fix deteriorating transport networks permanently.
They noted that sustained economic growth depends directly on safe transit channels that keep goods, services, and citizens moving efficiently.
Concluding their appeal, the guild reaffirmed its commitment to constructive media oversight and ethical journalism, promising to keep holding political leaders accountable to the public.
