Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has vowed to visit Ondo as the constitution guarantees him the right. This came after helping Godwin Obaseki cruise to reelection victory in Edo State.

Wike made this known on Tuesday when he featured in a live television programme in Akure, Ondo state’s capital.

There is a predominant evaluation that the race to govern the state is a three-horse matter as incumbent governor Rotimi Akeredolu will face his familiar political foe Eyitayo Jegede (SAN) of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and his deputy, Agboola Ajayi of Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).

The Ondo guber election has been slated for October 10 by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Governor Wike has been perceived as a stumbling block that may pose a hurdle to Akeredolu’s reelection considering his impact in the Edo election, prompting an alleged ploy channelled towards his possible visit.

But the Rivers governor, while stressing that PDP will sail to victory, declared that his Ondo colleague cannot bar him from coming to the state, adding that Akeredolu lacks the moral and constitutional rights to stop him.

Wike stated: “I don’t want to believe that Governor Akeredolu said what he was quoted to have said because he knows the consequences of saying such. I can visit Ondo state tomorrow and nobody can stop me.

“Akeredolu was in Rivers state during one of our bye-elections and nobody stopped him. He was in Rivers state to campaign for the candidate of his party and we didn’t stop him. So, how come he now wants to stop me from visiting Ondo?”

Earlier, Governor Wike said he is ready to resign from office if Rotimi Amaechi, the minister of transportation, can mention his contributions to the state in his ministerial capacity.

The governor’s statement was in reaction to Amaechi’s claim that he (Amaechi) is one of the best governors the state has ever had.
