A suspected cultist, 19-year-old Babatunde Idris, popularly known as ‘Bobo’, has been nabbed by the Ogun State Police Command, for allegedly killing an automobile technician, Salaudeen Lawal at Igbesa.
Reporters At Large learnt the suspect was arrested barely 24 hours after he was declared wanted by the police.
Idris was traced to his hideout at Surulere in Lagos State by detectives, led by the Divisional Police Officer, Igbesa division, SP Abayomi Adeniji on October 19.
It will be recalled that the suspect had, on Sunday October 18, attacked the deceased who was invited to repair a faulty car at Igbesa, accusing him of blocking the road with the car he was repairing.
Idris had reportedly stabbed the deceased with a broken bottle in his hand, cutting one of his veins.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi stated that the victim was quickly rushed to the hospital by the police, but died while receiving treatment.
This was said to have made the suspect to flee to evade arrest.
The PPRO said that as a result of the killing, the state Commissioner of Police, Edward A. Ajogun directed the DPO of Igbesa police station to fish out the culprit who had been accused of being a member of a dreaded cult group.
The DPO and other detectives reportedly embarked on intelligence and technology-based investigation, which led them to Surulere area in Lagos State where the suspect was hibernating, and subsequently got him arrested.
“He has made confessional statements on the commission of the crime,” Oyeyemi disclosed.
He added that the suspect had been transferred to the homicide section of the State Criminal investigation and Intelligence
Department,Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation into his past activities, and diligent prosecution.
