Kogi State Police Command operatives on stop-and-search duty have arrested a university student, Musa Mohammed Nurudeen, with five pistols in the bag he was travelling with.

Nurudeen was apprehended on February 8, 2021, on Oguda Bridge, along Okene-Auchi Road

Thenewsbearer learnt the policemen stopped a Toyota Tacoma vehicle, driven by one Daniel (surname withheld) while coming from Benin City in Edo State, on the way to Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

Nurudeen, who was said to be a 400-level student of Geology and Mining at Nasarawa State University, Keffi, had boarded the private vehicle in Benin, after the one he initially boarded at motor park had a mechanical fault.

It was learnt that when the passenger was checked, a bag containing five pistols, two magazines, a live pistol ammunition, some charms and two mobile phones was found with him.

During interrogation, the suspect confessed that the pistols, ammunition and other contents of the bag belonged to him.

He disclosed that he got the weapons from someone in Benue State, and had sold it to another man popularly known as ‘Chairman’ in Edo State.

He further confessed to being a cultist and a member of Aiye Confraternity, adding that his cult had been having rivalry clash with Vikings Confraternity.

The suspect added that he came to ‘Chairman’ to take the guns with him back to Nasarawa, in continuation of the clash between the rival cult groups.

The owner of the vehicle, Daniel told the police that he picked the passenger from Faith Motor Park in Benin, as a means of making some money to buy fuel into his car, unknown to him that he was carrying arms.

Daniel said that though his destination was Abuja, the passenger-turned-suspect decided to follow him, with the thought of boarding another one from Abuja to Nasarawa.

Confirming the story, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP William Aya, said that the suspect and exhibits recovered from him had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further interrogation.
