The New National Executive Council of the Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN) has resolved among other goals to work with all stakeholders in the faith-based Association to enhance its activities across the country with particular emphasis on doing more to advance the course of Muslim Women and the Girl Child.

Rising from their first National Executive Council meeting held in Abuja, the new National officers headed by Hajiya Rafia Idowu Sanni pledged to ensure synergy of activities across all branches of the Association towards further actualizing and promoting the core mandates and objectives of FOMWAN.

Hajiya Sanni said Da’awah ( calling to the way of Allah) which is one of the main activities of FOMWAN will also be given more prominence among the programs of the body, adding that this no doubt requires the collective effort of all members in all the 36 states of the Federation including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

” We glorify Allah for the opportunity provided for us, the new set of the National Executive Council of FOMWAN to work and continue the good and lofty ideals and ideas of the Association. We are praying unto Allah to bless us with all that is necessary and required to function optimally and perform outstandingly as National officers in order to take FOMWAN to a higher pedestal.

” As a network of Muslim Women Organizations in Nigeria, we will embark on more programs that will help to further promote and protect the interest, welfare and aspirations of our members. This will Insha Allah not be a herculean task to accomplish if members in all branches across the Country work in synergy. Hence, we are calling for the cooperation of all our members. We should remember, Allah, says “This Ummah is but one family,” Hajiya Sanni counselled.

According to her, the new National Executive Council is equally poised to promote teamwork, accountability, transparency and above all ensures consultation with all stakeholders so as to carry everyone along.

” Since our ultimate aim is to achieve success, we have resolved at the level of the National Executive Council to raise the bar of interpersonal relationships and communication as these are key elements in achieving the desired results.

The National Amirah who noted that the Country is in dire need of continuous prayers assured that the Association at all levels will intensify its supplications to Allah to help rid the nation of the socio-economic and other forms of problems bedevilling it.

On the 2021 Day of the Girl Child, Hajiya Sanni said the theme for this year’s celebration (Digital Generation: Our Generation) was apt

She said the survey which put the number of out-of-school children in Nigeria as 13.2 million is disturbing, noting that it is equally more worrisome that the Girl Child accounts for 60% of the total number.

” This worrisome reality requires decisive actions to remedy it. We need all hands to be on deck to change this unpalatable narrative and development. At FOMWAN, we will continue to embark on more sensitization campaigns and orientations on the need to educate our Girls. Our Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said if we educate a girl, we have educated a nation”

The New National Amirah of FOMWAN decried the rising cases of drug abuse among girls and young women in Nigeria.

” This is another menace that must be addressed. There’s a need for everyone to support the Government’s war against drug abuse as it is having a negative toll on our young population. As a faith-based Association, we are advising Government to put measures in place to prevent sales and abuse of hard drugs and substances, while there should be adequate provisions for treatment and rehabilitation of victims of drug abuse”
Hajiya Rafia Sanni stressed.
